Photos of the Great Division

The ranks of the Great Division are, for the most part, difficult to photograph. About half are on top of the Swell box (actually offset ahead of it, but part of the structure), and another portion are immediately behind the screen in front of the Swell shades. The Great Division is usually what people see on an organ, but this instrument is a little different.

On top of the Swell box are the four rank Fourniture mixture and 4' Octave ranks. The top photo is from the front, the bottom is from behind. This angle shows how the pipes are sitting on top of the Swell box. The speaker is not part of the organ.

	Down inside the organ are the Principal (barely visible on bottom left), Holzgedackt (wood pipes), and Trompete (on right) ranks. The screen behind the pipes in the facade can be seen on the left.
	Sandwiched between the pipes shown above and the black Swell expression shades on the right is the two rank Mixture which is part of the Pedal Division. This adds a touch of brilliance to a division otherwise dominated by bass sound.


Sounding every bit as mighty as they look (if not more), the Trompete en Chamade rank juts out in front of the rest of the pipe organ. Appropriately, this rank is most often used for fanfares and other situations which require a stately regal sound to the pipe organ. Though not very big, these pipes are very loud, and you'll know when the organist is playing them! The pole and wires which protrude a bit farther out are supports for microphones.
